Seller Of 89 Grams Of Methamphetamine Sentenced To 12 Years In Prison At Medan District Court
The panel of judges at the Medan District Court sentenced the defendant Sumijan alias Mijan from Langkat to 12 years in prison in a case of selling 89.15 grams of methamphetamine and 1,000 items of Psychotropic type Erimin-5 or Happy Five.
"Imposing the defendant Sumijan alias Mijan with a sentence of 12 years in prison, besides that he was subject to a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to six months in prison," said presiding judge Sarma Siregar at the Medan District Court as reported by ANTARA, Monday, July 31.
The panel of judges in the verdict stated that the facts of the trial of the defendant Sumijan alias Mijan were believed to have been proven guilty of violating Article 112 paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics and Article 62 of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 5 of 1997 concerning Psychotropics.
"The aggravating thing is that the defendant Sumijan does not support the government's program for eradicating drugs, while the mitigating thing is regretting his actions and being polite at trial," said Sarma.
After reading the verdict, the public prosecutor (JPU) and the defendant's legal adviser (PH) expressed their thoughts regarding the verdict.
The verdict of the panel of judges is the same as the prosecutor's demands. Previously in the indictment, the Public Prosecutor from the North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office, Erning Kosasih, said that on March 30, 2023, the defendant was contacted by Dian alias Uncu (in the investigation) to collect narcotics of the type methamphetamine and the pilhappy five.
Furthermore, said Erning Kosasi, the defendant received 1,000 pills of Hivedua kg of crystal methamphetamine to be delivered to Marelan.
