Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto Invites US Investors To Support Energy Transition Projects In Indonesia
Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, invited United States (US) investors to invest in a number of energy transition projects in Indonesia to realize a green economy in the Indo-Pacific region.
In a meeting with the United States Trade of Representatives (USTR) in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) in Detroit, USA, Airlangga stated that Indonesia's conducive business climate, strategic position in ASEAN, and high economic growth after global disruption in 2020-2022 became an attraction for foreign investors.
"The increasingly conducive business climate, Indonesia's strategic position in ASEAN, and high economic growth after global disruption in 2020-2022, are Indonesia's bargaining power in attracting investors from abroad," said Airlangga in a statement received in Jakarta, Saturday, May 27.
At the meeting, Airlangga and USTR Deputy Sarah Bianchi discussed various strategic economic topics, including IPEF negotiations, potential cooperation in the field of energy transition, and the importance of Critical Minerals in IPEF.
In the context of Critical Minerals, Airlangga conveyed the importance of a strong and competitive sustainable economy to support the transformation of decarbonization technology. Indonesia wishes to work together and carry out downstreaming in the extraction of Critical Minerals and other raw materials needed in clean energy.

Furthermore, Airlangga targets downstreaming in a high-tech clean energy ecosystem by developing manufacturing for electric vehicle batteries, electronic components, solar panels, and semiconductors.
"Indonesia wants cooperation and downstreamization in the field of Critical Minerals extraction and other raw materials needed in clean energy," said the chairman of the Golkar Party.
Meanwhile, the Deputy for USTR Bianchi expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's constructive participation and contribution in the IPEF negotiations that took place in Singapore in May 2023. The US government hopes that negotiations in the IPEF Pillar can achieve significant progress before the Presidential Meeting in November 2023.

The meeting between Airlangga and the Deputy for USTR Bianchi ended with an agreement with the two countries to complete IPEF negotiations in all pillars (Pilar I-IV) and create a clean energy ecosystem in the Indo-Pacific region.
