JAKARTA - The US State Department on Wednesday 27 March offered a reward of up to $10 million for information about the "Blackcat" ransomware group attacking the UnitedHealth Group technology unit and disrupting insurance payments across America.
"The ALPHV Blackcat ransomware-as-a-service group has developed a critical infrastructure sector computer network in the United States and around the world," the department said in a statement announcing its reward offering.
UnitedHealth said last week that it began cleaning up medical claim backlogs of more than $14 billion as they restarted their services after cyberattacks, which caused widespread disruptions starting in late February.
The UnitedHealth technology unit, Change Healthcare, plays an important role in processing payments from insurance companies to practitioners, and disruptions caused by cyberattacks have been in some cases leaving patients and doctors without money. Its impact on public health centers serving more than 30 million poor and unmitigated patients has been felt very hard.

Hackers said earlier this month that UnitedHealth paid a ransom of US$22 million (Rp349.5 billion) in a bid to restore their system, but whether Blackcat fulfilled their share of the deal was not made public.
