JAKARTA - The latest survey by the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII) states that the internet penetration rate in Indonesia has reached 79.5 percent or around 221,563,479 people from the total population of 278,696,200 Indonesians in 2023.

Of this number, based on the classification of 3T (left behind, frontier, and highest) areas, non-3T regions contributed 96.8 percent with an 80 percent penetration rate.

Zementara lagging behind has a contribution of 3.2 percent with a penetration rate of 67.6 percent. This shows that the government's efforts to improve connectivity in disadvantaged areas have yielded positive results.

What is interesting about this survey is that the contribution of male internet users is slightly greater than that of women, with the contribution of male internet users reaching 50.7 percent with a penetration rate of 87.6 percent.

Meanwhile, women contributed 49.1 percent with a penetration rate of 85.5 percent. This shows a reduced gender gap in internet access in Indonesia.

"This achievement is the result of a strong collaboration between the private sector and the government in an effort to expand internet access throughout Indonesia. We hope that this increase will bring great benefits to the development of the economy, education, and welfare of the Indonesian people as a whole," said APJII Chairman Muhammad Arif.
