Former President and presidential candidate of the United States, Donald Trump, has vowed to "never allow" the Federal Reserve to create a central bank digital currency (CBDC) in the country.

This oath was pronounced in a campaign speech at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on January 17. "Tonight I made another promise to protect America from government tyranny. I will never allow the creation of a central bank digital currency," Trump said.

This statement was greeted with lively applause, Trump replied, saying, "I don't know that you guys really understand... New Hampshire, very intelligent people," he said.

"Such a currency will give our federal government, our federal government, absolute control over your money. They can take your money, and you won't even know if it's gone. This will be a dangerous threat to freedom, and I will prevent it from coming to America," he said.

Donald Trump, who is controversially challenging the results of the 2020 presidential election, announced the launch of his 2024 presidential campaign in November 2022. The 60th US Presidential Election will be held on November 5, 2024.

In 2023, another presidential candidate and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis made a similar oath, pledging to "cancellate" the central bank's digital currency on his first day as president.

DeSantis lost to Trump in the Republican premiere in the state of Iowa on January 15. The Florida governor has consistently been behind Trump more than 10 points since launching his campaign.

Vivek Ramaswamy, another Republican nominee who proposed a crypto-focused policy framework, withdrew from the fight on January 15 after the results of a T-shirt in Iowa, in which he got around 8% of the vote. He officially supports Trump.

On January 17, a former US Securities and Exchange Commission law enforcement officer, John Reed Stark, said the crypto movement could be key to the 2024 presidential election.

"Every presidential candidate must immediately appoint an internal Crypto Czar to be the focus and internal crypto spokesperson for the candidate," Stark said.
