JAKARTA - Yandex, the largest search engine in Russia, has updated its currency converter by adding more than 140 popular cryptocurrencies.

This new version of the currency converter includes cryptocurrency exchange rates and allows users to access national currency data for different countries.

The widget, which displays price charts and a quick conversion tool, sits above search results and recognizes standard keywords as well as slang or incorrect language in queries.

Users can see the value of popular coins and tokens in Russian rubles, US dollars, euros, and other fiat currencies. Yandex takes market data from Coingecko, one of the world's largest crypto aggregation portals.

Yandex's move to integrate cryptocurrencies into its currency converter could signal growing acceptance of digital assets in Russia, despite the government's slow approach to regulation.

The "Digital Financial Assets" law came into force in January 2021, but officials have stated that they will properly regulate transactions with decentralized cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin by 2023.

Although several global online platforms support similar functionality, access to some of them is restricted to Russians. Yandex's cryptocurrency integration makes it easier for users to track the value of digital assets and can contribute to increased cryptocurrency adoption in Russia.
