Toyota posted an impressive increase in sales across North America (North America) in the first quarter of 2024. This increase was reported by Toyota, in a company release, April 2, driven primarily by soaring demand for their electric vehicles.

Compared to the same period last year, Toyota Motor North America sales rose 20.3 percent to 565,098 units. This increase looks consistent, especially in March where sales jumped 21.8 percent from 176,456 to 214,894 units.

However, the most highlighted by Carscoops, April 3, is the sales performance of Toyota electric vehicles. Toyota and Lexus' overall electric vehicle sales jumped 76.4 percent to 177,778 units compared to the same period last year. This indicates an increasingly high demand for environmentally friendly cars.

Several Toyota electric models experienced a fantastic increase. Sales of Prius Prime, for example, exploded 293.1 percent, while Camry Hybrid rose 142.7 percent. Significant increases also occurred in Toyota Crown (451.7 percent), RAV4 Hybrid (194.8 percent), and Lexus RZ (766.5 percent).

Even so, not all Toyota models have increased. Toyota Mirai's sales, which incidentally was a hydrogen car, actually fell drastically by 74.3 percent, followed by Highlander Hybrid (70.8 percent) and Lexus UX Hybrid (15.4 percent). In fact, Toyota GR Supra's performance also fell 44.4 percent compared to the same period last year.

Interestingly, GR86 sales are actually stable at 2,041 units, not much different from the previous year (2,038 units).

If you look at the entire product line, RAV4 became Toyota's best-selling model in the first quarter with sales of 45,340 units. Followed by Camry (30,323 units), Corolla (22,328 units), and Tundra (15,337 units).
