Toyota-Astra Motor Responds to Crash Test Scandal Affecting Models in Indonesia

JAKARTA - Recently, the results of the investigation into the Daihatsu crash test manipulation carried out by the Independent Third Party Committee have come out. The scandal occurred due to the falsification of 88,000 data results from crash tests carried out by the company, including several models including those from Toyota.

In the results of this report, 174 new cases were found in 25 test items, excluding manipulation of the pole side crash test last May. Reports say there are irregularities in 64 models and 3 engines, including models that are in development or have been discontinued.

There are several models from Toyota in Indonesia that are affected by this manipulation case based on the data that has been released, consisting of the Avanza, Veloz, Agya, Raize, Rush and Yaris Cross.

Responding to this, Anton Jimmi Suwandi, as Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), said that his party had carried out inspections on products sold in Indonesia and ensured that the vehicles met regulations.

"We have checked with the principal, especially products in Indonesia, this is not a safety or quality issue, and it meets Indonesian regulations," said Anton when contacted by VOI, Thursday, December 21.

He also said that his party was coordinating with the government regarding the continuation of production of several existing models in the country and would soon provide further information.

"Today we are also coordinating with the government, especially to continue production, this afternoon or evening we will let you know," said Anton.

Please note that products such as the Yaris Cross, Veloz and Avanza are assembled by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) in Karawang, West Java. Meanwhile, models such as the Raize and Rush are produced by Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) taking place at the factory in the same location.
