JAKARTA - Mazda, an automotive manufacturer who does not want to be left behind in the global electrification trend, plans to launch a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) car in China in early 2025 to increase sales.

In its efforts to provide environmentally friendly vehicles, Mazda will cooperate with local partner Changan Automobile to develop the car.

Reporting from Nikkei Asia, Tuesday, October 31, this move was triggered by increased demand for environmentally friendly vehicles in the Chinese market, where PHEV cars are increasingly popular as an attractive alternative for consumers who are not ready to switch to fully electric vehicles (EVs).

Masahiro Moro, CEO of Mazda, revealed that around 70% of new car sales in China today are PHEV cars. To expand the reach of its market in China, Mazda has also partnered with FAW Group to form a joint venture. Through this collaboration, Mazda hopes to expand its sales network in the country.

"My impression is that 70% of new car sales in China are plug-in," said Masahiro Moro, CEO of Mazda.

In addition to focusing on the Chinese market, Mazda is also working on electrification markets in various other countries. In the United States, Mazda plans to introduce new PHEV and hybrid models, including CX-70 PHEV and CX-50 Hybrid, as part of its efforts to expand its environmentally friendly vehicle portfolio.

In Indonesia, PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia (EMI) has successfully launched the CX-60 model, the first premium SUV equipped with mild-hybrid technology and turbocharged e-Skyactiv-G engines.

With advanced features and strong performance, Mazda CX-60 is offered in two variants, namelywael Edition and Elite Edition, at a price of around Rp. 1.18 billion On The Road Jakarta.
