Revealed, Wolves Turns Out To Give Hwang Hee-chan A Small Salary

JAKARTA - South Korean star Hwang Hee-chan has been receiving a small salary at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, Hwang's salary will increase many times after signing a new contract with the Premier League club.

Hwang is increasingly establishing as a South Korean star who is able to contribute to the club. He has followed since his senior, Park Ji-sung, who was the mainstay of Manchester United for seven seasons.

Park, who defended Manchester United from 2005 to 2012, became part of the team when he won the Premier League trophy five times and won the Champions League once. He also won trophies such as the Carabao Cup, Community Shield, and Club World Cup.

Apart from Park, there is Son Heung-min who is now captain of Tottenham Hotspur. Even though he has not given the trophy, Son has become a pillar of The Lilywhites.

Next, Hwang, the new generation of South Korea, who confirmed it as the mainstay star of Wolves. The sharpness of the player who faced Indonesia U-19 when he was still strengthening South Korea U-19 was indeed very impressive.

This season, he has scored eight goals which make him the club's top scorer. The brilliant performance of the 27-year-old has made Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola not hesitate to give praise. Hwang's contribution led him to an extension of his contract from Wolves. His contract at the club actually just ended in 2026.

However, Wolves gave an extension until 2028. He also got the option of a one-year extension.

Only, when the club renewed its contract, it turned out that Hwang had been getting a small salary.

Despite contributing to Wolves' achievements, Hwang receives a salary of only 30 thousand pounds or 592 million rupiah every week.

The salary is far below Son which reaches 190 thousand pounds or approximately 3.7 billion rupiahs each week. However, Son is indeed a pillar and captain of the team so he deserves a high salary.

Even more sad, Hwang's salary is far adrift than his colleague, Pablo Sarabia, who reaches 90 thousand pounds or 1.7 billion per week. Ironically, Sarabia is 31 years old and sits on the bench more often.

However, now Wolves are ready to give Hwang a high salary. Not only that, the club also gives the same salary as players who receive the highest salary in Wolves.

"Wolves has reached a new contract agreement with Hwang Hee-chan. He was awarded a contract until June 2028 with the option of a one-year extension," said European transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

"In the new contract, he gets the same salary as the highest-paid player at the club. Wolves' right move by defending one of their best players," he said.

Hwang himself started his career in Europe by strengthening Red Bull Salzburg in 2015. He then skyrocketed when he joined RB Leipzig in 2020. This winger helped Leipzig reach the 2022 German Cup final.

In 2021, Wolves borrowed Hwang for one season. Performance impresses the South Korean national team player to give Hwang a permanent contract until he finally stays with Wolves for the next five years.
