PSS Sleman Captain Disappointed With Chaos In PSIS's Contrast Match

PSS Sleman captain, Kim Kurniawan, was disappointed with the riots in the match against PSIS Semarang (Instagram.com/@kimkurniawan).

JAKARTA - PSS Sleman captain Kim Kurniawan expressed disappointment over the chaos that followed during the match against PSIS Semarang. He said the unfavorable situation was a factor in the team's failure to score.

PSS had the status of a visiting team against PSIS at Jati Diri Stadium on Sunday, December 3, 2023. The match for the 21st week of Liga 1 2023/2024 ended 0-1 for the host's victory.

In addition to failing to pick up the three points, this match became bitter for the Javanese Super Elang because it was peppered with incidents of crowd chaos during injury time.

When injury time was 1 minute 40 seconds, the referee stopped the match because many unscrupulous supporters came down from the stands and some entered the field. The riots made players on the bench run onto the field.

There were many stone throws in the clash between PSIS supporters and PSS Sleman. PSIS Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Yoyok Sukawi, was even hit by a object on the head and had to receive treatment from the medical team.

Seeing the unfavorable situation, Referee Rio Permana Putra finally blew the final whistle after an additional five minutes had been running and had discussions with the captain of the two teams.

After the match, Kim as PSS captain expressed disappointment. According to him, the team can still try to match the score in the remaining time if the chaos does not occur.

"Actually, it is quite unfortunate that the events at the end of the match cannot be continued until the minutes that should be played, maybe there are still 2-3 minutes," said Kim Kurniawan in his statement after the match.

Kim Kurniawan hopes that incidents like this will not happen again in Liga 1 2023/2024. There is a solution that is presented to make the match run smoothly in the future.

Hopefully it can be changed from all parties involved. Hopefully, we can achieve a solution because in football, anything can happen," explained Kim Kurniawan.

"So, it's quite unfortunate, can we make a decision like that. We have to look forward. Hopefully in the next match we can achieve better results," he continued.

The defeat at home to PSIS made PSS Sleman's efforts to improve their position in the 2023/2024 Liga 1 standings fail to materialize. PSS is still in 13th place with 23 points and minus seven goals.

After this, PSS Sleman will play a home match against RANS Nusantara FC on December 8, 2023. The 22nd week of Liga 1 2023/2024 will be held without spectators according to the sanctions from Komdis PSSI.
