JAKARTA - An epic battle that has been awaited between British heavyweight Tyson Fury and Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk has finally been officially scheduled. Both will have a fist fight in the ring on December 23 in Saudi Arabia.
Queensbury Promotions representing Fury, has confirmed the deal for the fight has been signed and will take place in Riyadh.
Usyk promoter, Alex Krassyuk, also confirmed this news. "I can't believe this is happening, but it is. I really respect Tyson for his courage," he said.
Saudi Minister, Turkey Alalsikh, also announced this good news. "Fury versus Usyk has been signed. This epic fight will be part of the Riyadh season," Turkish said.
This fight will be the first unmatched heavyweight fight in 24 years since Lennox Lewis fought Evander Holyfield in November 1999.
The mega deal has brought about uncertainty surrounding Fury's fight against Usyk, which was originally scheduled to take place at Wembley in April, four months after they met spontaneously at Tottenham.
Fury had questioned the fight by demanding that there be no re-fight clauses in their contracts. Usyk who came from Ukraine agreed to these conditions.
However, their agreement was threatened when Fury demanded a share of the prize portion of 70-30 which benefited him. Finally, Usyk agreed with the portion distribution, but he finally withdrew from the deal as Fury continued to try to change the terms agreed upon.
