India Open 2023 Schedule Today: It's Time For The Daddies To Strike

JAKARTA — Indonesian men's doubles, Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan, will compete in the first round of the 2023 India Open today, Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

The three-time world champion is scheduled to face China's Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang at K. D. Jadhav Indoor Hall, New Dehli, India.

On paper, the two pairs' win-loss records are still equally strong. Each pocketed one win and one loss.

Hendra/Ahsan won their first meeting in the semifinals of the Malaysia Masters in July last year. Meanwhile, Liang/Wang defeated The Daddies when they met in the last 16 of the Japan Open two months later.

Apart from The Daddies, eight other Indonesian representatives will also compete today. Among them was last week's Malaysian Open champion, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

The world number one begins his journey in this BWF Super 750 tournament against the Korean pair Choi Sol Gyu/Kim Won Ho. Currently, Fajar/Rian are winning head-to-head win-lose, 2-0.

Men's doubles Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, mixed doubles Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari, Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja, and Zachariah Josiahno Sumanti/Hediana Julimarbela, also played today.

Other representatives who played were men's singles Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Shesar Hiren Rhustavito and the only women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.

Unfortunately, Indonesia certainly does not have a representative in the women's doubles. This follows the withdrawal of the 2021 SEA Games gold medalist Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.

The pair failed to defend their title at the Malaysia Open last week because Fadia picked up an injury when they met Chinese top seeds Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan in the semifinals.
