Erick Thohir Wants To Cut BUMN Until 30 Companies Remain, Hotel Business Will Be Affected?

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir plans to reduce the number of state-owned companies to 30 companies remaining.

He wants the remaining SOEs to focus on refreciting the presence of the state.

"In the future, we see that we are still optimistic that if we can become 30 state-owned business bases. We will subtract them again so that we focus on the types that we really have to be present as a country, not all of them need," he said in a working meeting with Commission VI of the DPR, at the DPR Building, Jakarta, Tuesday, March 19.

Erick admitted that he was consolidating BUMN-BUMN gradually. Including reviewing whether or not these businesses actually need to be in BUMN. For example, the hotel business.

"Yesterday, for example, did SOEs need to be present in the hotel business? Now this is also the dynamics of itself. At that time we explained, indeed when we were present, SOEs had many hotels. Today it's just a consolidation, not a new hotel," he said.

Meanwhile, for the aviation sector, continued Erick, his party will also review whether AirNav needs to be in the state-owned enterprises or should be in the Ministry of Transportation.

If it is deemed necessary to be in BUMN, said Erick, it will be included in the Aviation and Tourism BUMN Holding ecosystem, InJourney.

"For example, like AirNav, AirNav needs not to be done by us or actually it should be at the Ministry of Transportation. Or if you have to enter, then he enters InJourney," he explained.

Regarding the plan to cut the number of SOEs, Erick admitted that he would hold a focus group discussion (FGD). Later this FGD will involve Commission VI of the DPR as a working partner of the Ministry of SOEs.

"There is still time, I think we can do it for consolidation together with Commission VI of the DPR," he said.

For your information, since the beginning of his tenure in 2019, Erick Thohir has been aggressively reducing the number of SOEs through the restructuring program he runs.

In 2020, the Ministry of SOEs has reduced the number of its business entities from 142 companies to 107 companies. Cleaning efforts continue, even until the fifth year of Erick Thohir's leadership. Of the 107 companies, now only 41 remain.
