JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) guarantees customer data security at the Face Recognition Boarding Gate service or facial check when boarding at the station.

Face Recognition Boarding Gate is a boarding service facility at the station equipped with a camera that functions to identify and validate a person's identity through a face whose data has been integrated with customer-owned train ticket data.

EVP of Corporate Secretary of KAI Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji said the Face Recognition Boarding Gate service aims to make it easier for long-distance train customers who want to take the train, without the need to show various documents such as boarding physical passes, e-boarding passes, or ID cards.

Furthermore, Agus said KAI already has good information security management so that it can ensure the security of customer data in the face recognition feature. Where KAI has implemented the ISO 27001 International Standardization Information Security Management System.

"People don't need to worry about data security in the face recognition feature used by KAI, because KAI already has good information security management. We also regularly continue to improve data security managed by the company," he said in an official statement, Friday, November 24.

Agus explained that customer data, NIK, and photo will be stored in KAI infrastructure and only used for the boarding process using the Face Recognition Boarding Gate.

"The data will be stored within 1 year, after which it will be deleted systemally," he explained.

Agus said, passengers are also entitled to apply for abolition of themselves at any time after registering through the Access by KAI application or by submitting data deletion to KAI through Customer Service officers at the station.

"KAI provides a choice of facilities for passengers to board via Face Recognition or manual. For passengers who want to board via Face Recognition, each passenger has first given a recording agreement for Face Recognition in the registration process, either registration at Access by KAI or at the station," Agus said.

The installation of the Face Recognition Boarding Gate was first carried out at Bandung Station on September 28, 2022.

Currently Face Recognition Boarding Gate is available at nine stations, namely Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya Gubeng, Malang, Solo Balapan, Gambir, Cirebon, Surabaya Pasar Turi, and Semarang Tawang Bank Central Java.
