Melki Sedek: Gibran Is Not A Representation Of Young People, Instead A Threat Because Of Nepotism

JAKARTA - The number two pair victory, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming, is considered a threat to young idealists. Both are emphasized not the representation and expectations of young people.

This was conveyed by former Chairman of the University of Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM UI) Melki Sedek Huang and Chairman of the BEM Paramadina University Afiq Naufal in the podcast of former KPK Leader Abraham Samad, Speak Up.

Melki highlighted that Gibran was young but was considered not to respect the constitution and did not protect democracy. He said that President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) eldest son closed the opportunity for people who did not have a civilese.

"Prabowo-Gibran has closed the door for all young people who want to be present in public office because of dynastic politics and nepotism, who are practiced not appreciating the allocation of the poor to become leaders and preventing people from being difficult to become rulers," said Melki as quoted on Friday, April 12.

Gibran is considered to be able to represent young people if he tries to run alone as a vice presidential candidate (cawapres), said Melki. "Without changing the constitution, without littering with the good laws and state concepts," he said.

"This is the most important and first fraud and makes today's young generation believe that politics is a dirty thing that can change the law, the constitution, neglect ethics just to gain power," continued Melki.

Meanwhile, Afiq said that young people thought that Gibran was only an extension of Jokowi. This is because the desire of the former Governor of DKI Jakarta to rule for more than two terms has been rejected by students and civil society.

He also added that the practice of perpetuating Jokowi's power was more brutal than the previous president. This is because the former mayor of Solo did not seem to respect the constitution with various efforts.

"If you look at Soekarno's history in his son, Suharto to his son, Habibie and his son, all processes have more or less respect for his son's constitution and human rights, but today everything is preserved," concluded Afiq.
