JAKARTA - The West Java Provincial Government is targeting 100 percent subsidized market operations (Opadi) to be completed by Saturday, April 6, 2024.

West Java Regional Secretary, Herman Suryatman, said that Opadi was an effort to control inflation in West Java.

"This (Opadi) is the commitment of the Acting Governor of West Java. Inflation must be controlled in West Java, one of the efforts is through market operations," said Herman.

According to him, not only Opadi, his party together with the central and district and city governments also carried out the Cheap Food Movement (GPM).

For Opadi, the West Java Industry and Trade Office provides 161,000 food packages, consisting of 5 kilograms of rice, 2 liters of cooking oil, and 2 kg of sugar.

"For this operation, we provide a subsidy of 161,000 packages, with subsidies per package of Rp45,700, distributed in 27 districts and cities. Of course, we also have more priority in regencies and cities with high inflation," said Herman.

Head of the West Java Industry and Trade Office (Disperindag), Nong Komara Nengsih, said that the Opadi launched by West Java Governor Bey Machmudin in Sukabumi City, Monday-Wednesday, April 1-3, 2024, had already been distributed 43 percent.

"On Thursday (4/4/2024) it could reach 78 percent so that we can finish on Friday (5/4/2024) and no later than Saturday (6/4/2024) like that (achieving 100 percent) throughout West Java," said Noneng.

The West Java Industry and Trade Agency has budgeted IDR 15 billion for Opadi which will be distributed during Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Christmas, and New Year.

For Opadi before Lebaran 2024, the budget reaches IDR 7.3 billion.

"In each city district, there are on average three points or four points," he said.

Nong said that three Opadi commodities were chosen for the results of a study from Padjadjaran University which researched commodities that usually rose significantly, including sugar, cooking oil, and rice.

"Actually, there are also commodities such as chili, but last week the price of chili has started to fall. There is also chicken meat, but chicken meat is a bit risky in sending and storing," he said.

According to Noneng, Opadi is one of the instruments carried out by the West Java Provincial Government so that people get food commodities at affordable prices.

"With subsidies, it will be cheaper. We hope that those of us who are not poor will not fall into poverty when prices increase. That's what we take more care of through Opadi," concluded Noneng.
