SEMARANG Like the annual tradition in the month of Ramadan, a group of teenage boys often fight sarongs. However, what needs to be known is that the police have banned these activities. This is because officers judge that the sarong war is considered disturbing to residents.

Central Java Police through the Head of Public Relations, Kombes Satake Bayu Setianto, emphasized that his party would not tolerate the sarong war. And even, they will process the law if they are proven to have violated the Criminal Code.

"The phenomenon that often appears in the fasting month is very disturbing, and is no longer considered ordinary juvenile delinquency", said Satake Bayu in a written statement, Thursday night, March 14.

Still according to Satake Bayu, the sarong war disturbed public order. The perpetrators deliberately put stones, motor, iron, or other objects in the sarong bundle with the aim of injuring their opponents. Therefore, this cannot be allowed and is considered an ordinary juvenile delinquency.

The criminal process is ready to ensnare if the perpetrators are proven to have violated the statutory article, especially the Criminal Code.

"The perpetrators of the sarong war can be charged with Law No. 35 of 2014 concerning amendments to Law No. 23 of 2002 concerning child protection as referred to in Article 76 C Article 80 paragraphs 1 and 2, and Article 170 of the Criminal Code concerning Beating with the threat of imprisonment above 5 years in prison," he explained.

If the sarong war results in the death of another person, then the perpetrator can be charged under Article 338 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of fifteen years.

"So the sarong war is no longer an ordinary delinquency. Parents, teachers and village officials will be involved in overcoming this phenomenon by prioritizing the aspect of coaching. But if there are perpetrators who are truly proven to have committed criminal acts, let alone planned, then they will be prosecuted," he said.

On the other hand, the Head of Humas appreciated the people who reported the sarong war that had occurred in their area. With a quick report to the police, a number of sarong wars could be thwarted.

"Every report will be responded quickly, the police patrol will be mobilized optimally in this month of Ramadan, to maintain the sincerity of residents who carry out fasting," he explained.
