The tourism bus carrying a group of students and teachers from SMAN 1 Sidoarjo had an accident on the Ngawi-Solo Toll Road, Ngale Village, Paron District, Ngawi Regency, East Java, resulting in one death and a number of others being injured.

"Initial information, it is true that one teacher died," said Head of PJR East Java Police AKBP Alex Sandy Siregar as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, January 18.

The accident, which occurred at around 20.30 WIB, involved a group tourism bus from SMAN 1 Sidoarjo with police number W-7473-UP with a truck numbered L-8216-GE. The bus rolled out of the toll road after avoiding the truck in front of it that had broken tires.

Until 22.00 WIB, the evacuation process by officers was still ongoing.

The injured victims were evacuated to two hospitals, namely Atin Husada Hospital and Widodo Ngawi Hospital which are closest to the accident site. The dead victim has been taken to Dr. Soeroto Ngawi Hospital.

According to the results of the temporary crime scene, the accident began when the bus containing a group of students and teachers from SMA Sidoarjo drove from the direction of Ngawi to Surabaya. The bus group was on their way home from Yogyakarta.

Unfortunately, at the scene of the incident, there was a truck that had a tire burst. The truck swerved to the right and at the same time from behind driving the bus.

Because the distance was too close, the bus driver could not avoid and there was a collision. As a result of the collision, the bus rolled over and exited the toll road.

The evacuation process was quite difficult because apart from the dark conditions, the bus body also rolled over.

Police officers are still investigating the cause of the accident by conducting a crime scene investigation and asking witnesses for statements.
