Vice President Ma'ruf Invites Greece To Strengthen Religious Tolerance In The World

JAKARTA - Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin invited the leadership of the Greek parliament to encourage the strengthening of tolerance and respect between religious believers in the midst of a global situation that is not conducive.

"I invite Greece to jointly encourage the strengthening of tolerance and respect among religious believers," said Ma Ruf in a meeting with Deputy Chair I of the Greek Parliament Ioanis Plaiatakitakis at Hellenic Parliament, Athens, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, November 23.

The Vice President emphasized that Indonesia and Greece need to continue to increase cooperation in the religious field. This is intended so that the two countries can set an example of the importance of maintaining inter-religious harmony in the midst of heating up the global situation.

The Vice President said that Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world. However, Muslims in Indonesia can live side by side peacefully with adherents of other religions. These similar values, he said, also appear to the Greek people.

Therefore, the Vice President encourages cooperation between Indonesia and Greece to continue to play an active role in realizing a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere in the diversity of embracing religion around the world.

Spokesperson for Vice President Masduki Baidlowi said the main agenda for the Vice President's visit to Greece was to bring a strong message of religious tolerance to realize peace.

"This note is that this is the Vice President's first visit to Europe. This is the first visit and one of the most important things about the Vice President's visit, don't forget that the Vice President (Ma'ruf Amin) is a religious figure and comes to the Archbishop of the Orthodox Church (Thursday, 23/11)," said Masduki.

The vice president is scheduled to meet the Greek Archbishop Ieronymos II on Thursday (23/11).
