BMKG Modifies Weather At Christmas-New Year

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) conducts weather modification technology to secure routes or areas that are crowded with travelers on Christmas 2023 and New Year's 2024.

"Based on last year's experience, it is necessary to do weather modification technology to secure crowded routes for travelers, such as on toll roads or areas for Christmas-New Year," said BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati in a Working Meeting with Commission V DPR reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 21.

According to him, previously it was conveyed that the most visitors during the Christmas holidays were in tourist sites.

"We have established together with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Air Force, as well as the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to carry out weather modification technology," he said.

BMKG predicts the distribution of zones with heavy rain intensity in Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, and also in NTT, Halmahera and Papua for the period before Christmas 2023, namely on 17-24 December 2023.

Then after Christmas 2023, namely on December 25, 2023-1 January 2024, BMKG saw that the area was slightly shifted, but the potential for heavy rain still occurred in various parts of Indonesia.

"Then after January 1, 2024, namely the January 2-8 January 2024 period, heavy rain is still occurring, we even predict that the peak of the rainy season in parts of Indonesia will occur in January 2024, and some other areas can also occur in December 2023 and other areas in February 2024. However, in January 2024, heavy rains occurred in most parts of Indonesia, "said Dwikorita.

BMKG ensures that weather information can be accessed easily by the public and related parties.

"We have also prepared for the last few years weather information for flights, especially for pilots who can actually know the weather forecast conditions approximately 6 hours before flying," said Dwikorita Karnawati.
