Worrying, 15,896 Toddlers In Surabaya Experience Diarrhea

SURABAYA - The problem of diarrhea in toddlers in Surabaya is still worrying. During semester I of 2023, there were 15,896 cases of diarrhea in toddlers. To deal with this problem, the Surabaya Health Office (Dinkes) is currently starting to carry out rotavirus immunization.

The Head of the Surabaya City Health Office, Nanik Sukristina said, the rotavirus immunization program is part of a series of national complete routine immunization programs (IRL), so that the implementation agenda will be sustainable.

"The implementation of rotavirus immunization in the city of Surabaya will begin in August 2023 on an ongoing basis," said Nanik Sukristina, Monday, August 21.

The target of this immunization is babies born on May 16, 2023, or who are between the ages of two and six months.

"The rotavirus vaccine will be distributed in stages from the center and has been regulated in the instructions from the Director General of Disease Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health regarding the implementation of national rotavirus immunization," she added.

This immunization will be carried out through Integrated Healthcare Center (Posyandu), Public Health Center (Puskesmas), and door to door visits. Rotavirus immunization will be given orally three times, with each dose at least 28 days apart.

To ensure its effectiveness, this immunization program will be evaluated periodically. Nanik invited parents who have babies at least two months old to immediately visit the Posyandu or the nearest health care facility.

"Implementation of the immunization program in August 2023 will be evaluated in late August to early September 2023. We urge people who have babies aged at least two months and born after May 16 2023 to immediately take advantage of the immunization facilities that have been provided," said Nanik.
