JAKARTA - A dangerous heat wave will continue to hit the East Coast and the central coast of the United States (US) this weekend, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue a hot shock warning to millions of people.

More than 190 million people, or 60 percent of the US population, have been asked to be aware of hot shocks or floods since Thursday (27/7), according to NWS.

As reported by ANTARA, Saturday, July 29, meteorologist at the NWS Weather Prediction Center Bob Oravec said the heat waves hit "all major cities" in the US so that the impact was felt by most of the population.

Millions of people on the coast of Virginia to Washington, DC and Boston are expected to have the hottest weekend of the summer.

NWS also issued an "excessive Heat Warning" for New York City from Thursday at 11.00 to Friday at 21.00 local time (Saturday at 08.00 WIB).

NWS said the temperature in New York is estimated to reach more than 30 degrees Celsius with a hot index of 40 degrees Celsius.

Secretary-General of the Association of Nations (UN) Antonio Guterres on Thursday (27/7) has also warned "the global leadership era has arrived" as July was designated the hottest month ever recorded on Earth.

''Climate change is real. It's scary. And this is just the beginning. The era of global warming has ended; the era of global education has arrived,'' Guterres told reporters at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

US President Joe Biden on Thursday (27/7) also announced a series of moves to help his citizens deal with extreme heat waves.

One of them is asking the Labor Department to issue a heat hazard warning and increasing the enforcement of employment laws to protect workers.

The warning was intended to remind employers that workers are protected by the state for heat waves, and the department must take action against any kind of violation committed.
