After Social Media, Donald Trump Supporters Now Make Anti-censorship Phones From Google And Apple

JAKARTA - Supporters of former President of the United States (US) Donald Trump have again created a new breakthrough. In addition to making social media, now they are making mobile phones. The cellphone targeted right-wing groups (as Trump supporters are called).

Dubbed the Freedom Phone, the phone promises advanced privacy and security features as well as an anti-censorship app store. This phone was created by Erik Finman, a 22-year-old crypto millionaire and Trump supporter.

According to Finman, the phone, which is priced at US$500 or equivalent to Rp7.2 million, can free users from the influence of Big Tech such as Apple, Google, and Facebook.

Finman also confidently claims that the Freedom Phone is the best phone in the world today in his promotional video upload on Twitter. However, there is no information about the specifications of the cellphone which includes the chipset, RAM, internal memory, camera, and others on the official website of the cellphone, other than inviting site visitors to buy it immediately.

Furthermore, The Daily Beast notes that the Freedom Phone appears to be a rebranding of a cheap Android phone from Umidigi, the Umidigi A9 Pro. The company is headquartered in Mainland China.

This is also reinforced by the statement of cyber expert and Hacker House co-founder, Matthew Hickey, Freedom Phone who said, "Based on photos from the company's website, a number of internet detectives identified this device as having the same form factor, shape, and appearance as the Umidigi A9 Pro, ' said Hickey.

Usually, said Hickey, phones like this can be purchased in large quantities even with special logos and branding. The price of the Umidigi cellphone is also much cheaper than the Freedom Phone, which is priced at only Rp1.7 million.

Finman confirmed that the Freedom Phone was indeed made by Umidigi, but he did not elaborate. He actually admitted that this phone was made in Hong Kong, even though Umidigi's headquarters are in Shenzhen, China.

Finman claims, Freedom Phone is different from Android or iPhone phones because it can protect users from collecting personal data. However, this phone uses the FreedomOS operating system which is a modified version of Android.

The Daily Beast also revealed that the apps on Freedom Phone are all available for free, including Signal, DuckDuckGo, Brave, and Trump supporters' favorite right-wing apps like Parler, Gab, Newsmax, Rumble, and others.

It is known, Parler and Gab themselves were previously banned from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store after the riots at the Capitol Building, USA.

Trump supporters also continue to rage at technology providers such as Twitter and Facebook for blocking his idol, based on when Trump called on his followers to stage a rebellion at the Capitol. Trump did not accept Joe Biden being elected as the nation's 46th president, and said that there was cheating.

The far-right group has also rallied against technology companies including Google, Apple, and Amazon. Since Trump stepped down, his fanatical fans have continued to try to create new alternative social media to escape the social media giant Silicon Valley, USA. But most of them don't last long.

Some time ago, Trump also launched a blog to communicate with his supporters, but soon failed to operate. Meanwhile, the GETTR platform, which is similar to Twitter, was also hacked on the day of its launch in June.
