Mexico's Largest Internet Provider Receives Bitcoin Payment

JAKARTA The latest step is being taken by the largest internet service provider in Mexico, Total Play. The internet provider reportedly accepts Bitcoin as a means of payment.

This happened thanks to the company's cooperation with payment companies Lightning Network. Michael Saylor, founder of MicroStrategy, who had already integrated his company into the network, announced his plans to implement Bitcoin Lightning Network to various companies.

MicroStrategy itself intends to launch product packages with Bitcoin and Lightning Network wallets, specifically for companies interested in using Bitcoin as a more efficient and low-cost transaction tool.

Meanwhile, Total Play, on May 18 announced its company was integrated with the Bitcoin Lightning Network. This allows the payment of Total Play services using Bitcoin.

According to a recent report, the internet provider provides a simple payment panel asking users to choose between Bitcoin on-chain payments and BTC Lightning payments.

Based on Coingape's statement, this could be an important development in this neighboring country of the United States, because mainstream Bitcoin use can educate people more about crypto use cases. According to DB-IP, Total Play Telecommunications ranks 8th on the list of 20 organizations with the largest IP allocation in Mexico.

For information, Bitcoin Lightning Network is a layer-2 payment protocol developed on the Bitcoin blockchain. This allows for fast and efficient BTC transactions as well as cheaper costs. Then, MicroStrategy itself is Saylor's technology company which has around 140,000 Bitcoins. This amount is worth around 4 billion US dollars or Rp59.7 trillion.
