JAKARTA - Microsoft plans to increase revenue by launching advertisements on Bing Chat. Evidently, the company has just announced the release of the Chat API for online publishers, apps and services.

The App Program Programming Interface or API is designed to help users adjust their chat experience.

This means that users will be able to choose an ad format based on their preferences. What's more, users can also choose ads displayed on the platform to get more interaction from the audience.

The new API provides publishers who create chats on their site or app to monetize using learning from Microsoft Advertising on how to broadcast relevant ads in chat.

"Our goal is really to focus on [the issuer] on monetization and being an expert there, and for them to bring what's best for their audience and create the best experience overall," said Microsoft's Vice President Advertising, Kyya Sacibury-Carter.

The technology giant based in Redmond, United States (US), is currently opening a platform for testing and inviting users to try it.

However, it's unclear how this new entry will change the user experience in terms of revenue. Microsoft is currently working to launch hotel ads, with the prospect of leveraging travel and real estate in the future.

Compared to other browser-based searches, Bing Chat's response is relatively longer. Thus, incorporating advertisements into this experience is very useful.

"If you do a long query in a traditional search, any search engine will take just a few words and search for the keyword and give something you think you're asking for," explains Sciencebury-Carter.

With a longer period of conversation [in chat], there's still a lot to do, but that's really the context you want to continue. So, as long as we can broadcast relevant ads, you'll expect engagement to be there," he added.

Bing has more than 100 million active users daily, and Microsoft sees about a third of these users using chatbots every day.

Bing Chat has been involved in more than half a billion chats since its launch in February. And 15 percent of users use this chat to generate new content, as quoted by MarTech, Tuesday, May 9.
