Real Madrid Crushed by Girona, Carlo Ancelotti: A Tough Night

JAKARTA - Real Madrid won a surprising result when they visited the Girona headquarters. Los Blancos lost with a landslide score of 2-4 at the Estadio Municipal de Montilivi, Wednesday, April 26, early morning of Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

In that match, Girona's goal was bought up by Castellanos. While Madrid's goals were scored by Vinicius Junior and Lucas Vasquez.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said his team's defense against Girona was very bad. That's what he thinks determines the game.

"It was a difficult night. Every time you lose like this it is a difficult night," Ancelotti told the club's official website.

The 63-year-old coach said that in that match his team fully controlled the game by recording 71 percent ball possession, compared to Girona's 29 percent.

"We did a good job with the ball, especially from the start," Ancelotti said, as reported by Antara.

However, the fast counter-attack that led to a goal for Girona made Ancelotti call his team having difficulty turning things around.

"Then they hit us with two goals on the counter-attack and we tried to come back into the game with individual moments, not as a team," said Ancelotti.

"We were bad individually and the defensive side, which was very good in the last few games, was not showing today," he added.

He also said his side had lost confidence after being shocked by the home team's counter-attack goals. He added, his team played nervous from the start and then lost control.

This defeat made Real Madrid fail to close the distance with Barcelona at the top of the Spanish League standings for the 2022/2023 season.

El Real collected 65 points, 11 points behind the Blaugrana who are at the top of the standings with 76 points.

This point gap has the potential to be even further away if Xavi Hernandez's team manage to win against Rayo Vallecano on Thursday (27/4) at 03.00 a.m. WIB.
