However, there are also manufacturers who have used AI technology, namely a Japanese car manufacturer, Nissan. They have used the technology at Yokohama Lab, located in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
Yokohama Lab is an AI development and research division owned by Nissan, learning how AI and utilizing this advanced system to design the latest car.
Reporting from the CarBuzz page, Sunday, June 11, Yokohama Lab aims to understand how AI helps solve the difficulties faced by Nissan engineers and designers by shortening their time and providing the best solution.
One aspect of the car design they want to improve in terms of aerodynamics. Kai Akasaka, an aerodynamics engineer at Nissan, admitted that one of the difficulties faced so far was the calculation of car aerodynamics design.
"Now it's very challenging to immediately answer a sudden request from the designer. When they make a little changes to the design they want to know as soon as possible how it affects the aerodynamics," said Akasaka.
Akasaka then tried to approach Yokohama Lab and asked how AI could solve the problem. In response, the research center initiated a collaborative project to develop a prediction model using deep AI learning. However, the team had problems by showing that more data was needed to complete the task.
"As data increases, its accuracy increases, but also increases its dependence on data. To overcome this, we are experimenting and working with Akasaka, training models with paired information such as fluid dynamics and other physical laws in addition to car shapes," said Chen Fangge, data scientist from Yokohama Lab.
In addition to design issues, Nissan has also now used AI technology to make a safer car with inspection scanners that can assess spare parts with an accuracy of 99.995 percent.
