2,313 Patient Dies While Self-Isolating, DPR: Need To Synchronize Government Data And Covid-19 Reports

JAKARTA - Member of the House of Representatives Commission IX, Saleh Partaonan Daulay, highlighted the findings of the LaporCovid-19 team which recorded 2,313 self-isolated patients died outside the hospital.

According to him, these findings show various weaknesses in handling people exposed to COVID-19. Moreover, he said, the data submitted could be different from the data held by the government.

Weaknesses include the inability of hospitals and health facilities to accommodate all those who are exposed. Evidently, many COVID-19 patients are being treated outside the hospital.

"The number who died alone reached 2,313. Surely the number of self-isolation is many times that number. Most of them chose self-isolation because they were not accommodated in existing hospitals and health facilities", Saleh told VOI, Friday, July 23.

Second, this phenomenon also shows the limitations of available medical personnel. The proof, said Saleh, was that LaporCovid-19 explained that those who were self-isolation were never visited or contacted by medical personnel. It could be because the existing medical personnel is concentrated in hospitals and health facilities.

"We are very sad to see this fact. Because many of those who receive serious attention and treatment cannot be helped. Moreover, those who are not cared for and do not receive adequate treatment", said the chairman of the House of Representatives of PAN faction.

Third, the data presented show a weakness in terms of data collection. This means that the officers who should have recorded the data were not able to reach all those who were exposed.

This, according to Saleh, is certainly very difficult to map out the zoning level of exposure of a particular area. In fact, mapping is very important.

"From there, the best policy can be formulated that must be taken in a certain regional scale. Without a mapping, it is not clear what direction to take", said the member of the commission in charge of health issues.

In this report, Saleh urged the government to provide responses and responses, including the steps to be taken in addressing this matter.

If possible, continued Saleh, it is necessary to synchronize data between those owned by the government and those released by LaporCovid-19.

"We appreciate what LaporCovid-19 has done. Hopefully, what has been conveyed can be followed up by the government. The target is that all members of the community can have full access to health services", said the legislator for the North Sumatra II electoral district.
