JAKARTA - The East Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) has arrested five people in connection with the case of a fake PCR swab test letter.

East Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner Police Erwin Kurniawan said the five people were arrested on Wednesday, July 21 at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport at around 12.00 p.m. local time.

"There are public reports that there are suspicions of forgery of PCR letters with negative results that were carried out by several people and used by one of the passengers who departed by airplane", said Erwin Kurniawan in Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Friday, July 23.

Erwin Kurniawan added that the five people who were arrested had the initials DDS, and KA, which was a prospective passenger who ordered a false PCR negative result certificate.

"Furthermore, three people with the initials DI, MR, and MG who made soft copies, printed fake PCR letters with their respective roles", said Erwin Kurniawan.

Erwin said that from the arrests, a number of pieces of evidence such as laptops, printers, CPU, cash amounting to IDR 600.000, and a sample letter of false negative PCR results.

The five of them were charged with Article 263 of the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of six years in prison, then Article 268 of the Criminal Code with a maximum imprisonment of four years.

Furthermore, Article 14 Paragraph 1 of Law no. 4 of 1984 with a maximum imprisonment of one year and/or a fine of IDR 1.000.000, as well as Article 9 Paragraph 1 of Law no. 6 of 2018 with a maximum imprisonment of one year.
