JAKARTA - Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna Laoly, said foreign workers who previously came to Indonesia as part of a national strategic project could no longer enter Indonesia.

"Foreign workers who previously came as part of a national strategic project or for reasons of family union, can no longer enter Indonesia", said Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, July 21.

This is regulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Number 27 of 2021 concerning Restrictions on Foreigners Entering the Territory of Indonesia During the Enforcement of Restrictions on Emergency Community Activities.

This expansion of restrictions on foreigners entering Indonesia is carried out to suppress the spread of COVID-19.

However, in the Permenkumham it is stated that foreigners who may enter Indonesia are only holders of diplomatic visas and service visas, holders of diplomatic residence permits and official residence permits, holders of limited stay permits, and permanent residence permits.

Then foreigners with health and humanitarian purposes, as well as transportation crews who came with their means of transportation, said Yasonna.

The Minister of Law and Human Rights also replaces the Minister of Law and Human Rights Regulation Number 26 of 2020 concerning Visas and Residence Permits during the Adaptation of New Habits.

In addition, foreigners who are classified as exceptions to the Permenkumham also need a recommendation from the relevant ministry or institution to enter the country.

Minister of Law and Human Rights Number 27 of 2021 cannot be separated from an agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its amendment from Permenkumham Number 26 of 2020 which also involves staff from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Transportation.

"Permenkumham Number 27 of 2021 cannot be separated from good coordination between me and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and other related institutions", he said.

The Ministry of Law and Human Rights, said Laoly, will also coordinate with relevant ministries and institutions regarding foreigners who are still allowed to enter Indonesia according to the new rules.

For example, coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if there are diplomats who want to enter Indonesia in the context of their duties. Foreigners who enter for health and humanitarian purposes must also obtain a recommendation from the ministry or agency that carries out the COVID-19 handling function.
