JAKARTA - The Regent of Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan, Fransiskus Diaan, said that his area is currently in a disaster emergency status due to flooding in several sub-districts.
"I have coordinated with the governor regarding the emergency status of the disaster and submitted assistance to the provincial government for flood victims", said Fransiskus, quoted by Antara, Friday, July 16.
According to him, the handling of floods, especially flood victims, is constrained by the length of reports from sub-districts and villages.
The Kapuas Hulu Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) continues to collect data through reports from the sub-district and village heads, to find out the total loss, residents affected by floods, and other flood impacts.
"We are waiting for information from the sub-district head and data in the field. BPBD is also constrained by several road access being cut off and telecommunication networks", said Fransiskus.
The regent requested that the sub-district and village heads proactively report any flood developments in their respective areas.
"Every time there is a disaster development, report it immediately, because the data is very important in determining the next step", said Fransiskus.
He has also proposed to the provincial government in the hope that assistance will be realized soon.
"That's one of our efforts to help flood victims because what we have is very limited", continued Fransiskus.
