JAKARTA - Main Expert Staff of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Helson Siagian reminded that the construction and development of the Mandalika Circuit in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) is a long-term investment to realize equitable development according to the concept of Indonesia-centric.

This was conveyed in response to various highlights of the construction of the Mandalika Circuit which left a debt for PT Pembangunan Pariwisata Indonesia or Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) of IDR 4.6 trillion.

"The development of the circuit is a breakthrough that has been prepared with great caution to grow new tourism centers, especially in NTB. This is one clear proof of President Jokowi's commitment to equalizing development in Indonesia," said Helson, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 16.

Helson said the use of the Mandalika Circuit as a place for international racing, namely MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3, WSBK, and the Asian Talent Cup, had created a large and sustainable economic multiplier effect.

He gave an example of the success of the 2023 WSBK activity which had an impact of IDR 5 trillion on the economic movement ecosystem in Indonesia.

"We (KSP) believe that in the next few years, the impact of the development of the Mandalika Circuit will be greater and strengthen NTB as one of the sustainable Super Priority Tourism Destinations," he said.

Regarding the elimination of the World Superbike (WSBK), according to Helson, this does not need to be used as a polemic because there are still many international events that can be held at the Mandalika Circuit and can attract tourists such as Porsche Challenge and L'Etape Indonesia by Tour de France.

"Of course MotoGP too," he said.

Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, located in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone, Central Lombok, has a track length of 4.31 kilometers and 17 corners, as well as a large run-off area. The circuit was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in 2021.
