JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Muhaimin Iskandar encouraged the government and other relevant agencies to take extreme actions to prevent the entry of new types of drugs in Indonesia.

Currently, the world is being shocked by a zombie drug outbreak in the United States (US). The condition of Philadelphia City in the state of Pennysylvania, USA, is reportedly quite worrying due to the rise of Flakka drug users who come from trancation drugs or known as zylazine.

Drug addicts appear to be roaming in an area in Philadelphia known as a narcotics-free market. Many of them mixed the drug with heroin, fentanyl, and ecstasy which led to serious effects so that the US Government has designated the combination of drugs as a new threat because overdose cases and deaths across the US continue to increase.

From the video that went viral on social media, drug addict Flakka in Philadelphia seemed to be gathering in a pathetic condition on the side of the road. They look like zombies because many are daydreaming, walking directionlessly with empty gazes, even fainting.

The Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police stated that this type of narcotics has not been detected in Indonesia. Muhaimin asked the National Police to cooperate with other ministries and institutions to ensure that Indonesia is safe from the circulation of animal sedatives used to increase the effects of other types of drugs.

"There must be cross-agency cooperation so that Indonesia can close this very dangerous drug entry meeting. The DPR will also oversee it to ensure that drug trafficking prevention can run optimally," said Muhaimin Iskandar, Wednesday, May 31.

Furthermore, Muhaimin asked the National Police, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Immigration, Customs and Excise, all Regional Governments, and other relevant stakeholers to harmonize programs so that zombie drugs do not enter Indonesia.

"Synergy of all parties is needed to ensure that these types of drugs are not circulating in our country. Starting from preventive actions to firm action against drug trafficking perpetrators," said Muhaimin.

The chairman of the DPR, the coordinator of the People's Welfare (Kesra) sector, also highlighted the entry route of drugs to Indonesia. Muhaimin said the authorities must carry out strict supervision at every entrance located in Indonesian territory, including from sea routes.

"As a maritime country, Indonesia has many entrances. I emphasize, close access to rat lanes so that we don't miss it. Of course, this requires joint work," he said.

Furthermore, Muhaimin asked the Government to intensify socialization about the dangers of the Flakka drug. Because the zombie drugs that are endemicing in the US have claimed thousands of lives, and have even penetrated the UK.

The impact of the effect of the 'Tranq' drug eats away at the meat, causing the addict to experience a rotting skin like a zombie. Based on reports, many of these drug users have open gaping wounds, infections, some necrotic tissues (dead), and eventually leads to amputation.

Another side effect of this drug causes users to fail to breathe, experience a decrease in blood pressure, and seizures. Not only has an impact on the skin, but zelazine also has a effect of confusion and disorientation.

Socialize in various lines, if necessary, cooperate with health facilities. Education also needs to be done to schools so that our children understand the dangers of this drug," Muhaimin appealed.

On the other hand, international cooperation is considered to be further improved. Muhaimin also highlighted the importance of social programs for children of former drug addicts considering that one of the goals of sustainable development goals (SDGs) is to ensure a healthy life and encourage prosperity for everyone at all ages.

"We need to increase cooperation with other countries for information exchange, and as a joint effort to take action against the cross-border narcotics trafficking network," said the man who is familiarly called Gus Muhaimin.

"It is also important for social programs for former narcotics addicts, especially from among the younger generation. Because eradicating drugs is not enough just by confiscation and rehabilitation. The state must be able to ensure that former addicts are again accepted by the public and can get jobs," continued Muhaimin.

The legislator from the East Java VIII electoral district added that education and socialization also need to be given to parents, considering that the front line for drug prevention comes from the family. In addition, said Muhaimin, participation from the community is also important because it can determine interactions from children.

"Parents and families are at the forefront of fighting the threat of drugs. Parents must give a strong foundation so that children are not tempted to abuse narcotics. And make sure their children grow up in a healthy community," said the former Minister of Manpower and Transmigration.

By building a strong bond between parents and children, according to Muhaimin, this can be the key to helping teens overcome social pressures that can cause them to be affected by drug snares.

"Parents who attend, engage, and are open to listening to their children's problems can provide the necessary sense of security and confidence to resist the temptation of drugs," said Muhaimin.

For the younger generation itself, Muhaimin reminded to always be vigilant and not be influenced to try narcotics

"Drugs can destroy the lives of the younger generation. And the future of this nation is in your hands. So stay away from drugs so that you can bring Indonesia forward," he ordered.

For this reason, Muhaimin invites the younger generation to be involved in positive activities. He encourages young people to participate in social activities, sports, arts, and other productive activities.

"By building emotional intelligence and social skills, the younger generation can avoid the influence of drugs. Expand activities that can hone your skills so that you can grow into great leaders and superior human resources," concluded Muhaimin.
