JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) was surprised when it found out that the obligation of legislative candidates (caleg) to report their wealth was lost from the latest General Election Commission (KPU) regulations. In fact, in the 2018 election this was strictly regulated.

"So basically we are a bit surprised to see that the PKPU that came out was Number 10 (PKPU 10 of 2023 concerning the nomination of DPR and DPD members) and 11 (PKPU Number 11 of 2023 concerning the nomination of individual election participants. DPD members) did not mention at all the obligation to convey LHKPN," said Deputy for Prevention and Monitoring of the KPK Pahala Nainggolan to reporters, Tuesday, May 23 evening.

Pahala said that KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri had contacted KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari and asked for an explanation. "Why? Apparently the KPU intends to just register everything first," he explained, imitating the KPU's statement.

"If you have become a candidate, there has been a voting, then (later, red) the PKPU will come out again. Well, PKPU for the inauguration, all kinds of appointments are called LHKPN obligations," continued Pahala.

Pahala said that the KPK had also sent a letter signed by Firli. In the letter, it is stated that the elected candidate is obliged to report his property and proof of reporting is a requirement for the inauguration.

"If not (submitting evidence, ed), it will not be inaugurated," he said.

The KPK said the PKPU was planned to be issued at the end of March 2024 after the voting was held. Thus, there is no more reason for the legislative candidate who gets a seat not to report his wealth.

The reporting will be based on the population identification number (NIK) and use a digitalization system based on barcodes. The KPK and the KPU agreed that the steps were taken because they would not have enough time to issue physical evidence.

"So they (caleg, ed) have time from March to October to convey the LHKPN electronically," he concluded.
