Head of Sub-Directorate I of the Ditreskrimsus Polda Sultra Kompol Rico Fernanda said the results of the arrest were based on complaints from the public who were restless because the subsidized fuel was misused by irresponsible persons.

He said the arrest took place last Wednesday at around 18.00 WITA, at Jalan Pohara Village, Sampara District, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, and detained a man suspected of having committed a criminal act of abuse of transportation and/or trading for fuel supply and distribution given an assignment by the government.

"The man who was detained on suspicion of smuggling fuel has the initials F (24) who is a resident of North Konawe Regency (Konut)," Rico said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 5.

Rico added that his party also secured a white Isuzu Traga minibu car and 64 jerry cans of volume 32 liters containing pertalite type fuel, bringing the total volume of fuel that was secured to around 2,048 liters or more than two tons.

"The results of the interim examination show that the perpetrator admitted to buying fuel from gas stations in Kendari City using jerry cans, and the destination would be resold outside the Kendari City area or to Morowali, Central Sulawesi Province," said Rico.
