Ferry Irawan's Reason Was Only Sentenced To 1 Year In Prison Even Though It Was Proven That He Had Committed Domestic Violence

JAKARTA - Ferry Irawan was found guilty of the Domestic Violence (KDRT) case against Venna Melinda. The panel of judges at the Kediri District Court sentenced the 46-year-old man to 1 year in prison.

The verdict from the panel of judges was lower than the demands of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) who demanded Ferry 1 year and 6 months in prison because he was considered not to have committed serious domestic violence.

Jeffry Simatupang as one of Ferry Irawan's legal team expressed his satisfaction with the verdict handed down by the Kediri District Court judges. He said that his client was not proven to have committed serious domestic violence as contained in Article 44 paragraph 1 of the Law on the Elimination of Domestic Violence (PKDRT Law).

"For me, the most important and the main thing is that what we have been fighting for so far is true. It is proven in the verdict that Mr. Ferry was not legally and convincingly proven to have committed a criminal act Article 44 paragraph 1 of the PKDRT Law," said Jeffry Simatupang when contacted by the media crew, Tuesday, May 23 evening.

From the start, said Jeffry, he and his client had stated that there was no serious domestic violence in his household with Venna Melinda. That way, Ferry's punishment for Article 44 paragraph 4 and Article 45 of the PKDRT Law is considered appropriate.

"From the start, I as Ferry Irawan's attorney have said that Article 44 paragraph 1 of the PKDRT Law was not appropriate in the case faced by Ferry Irawan," said Jeffry.

"With today's decision stating that Article 44 paragraph 1 of the PKDRT Law is not proven, then what I have said so far is correct and appropriate," he continued.

Regarding the next legal step, Ferry Irawan's attorney said that his client was still waiting for the steps to be taken by the prosecutor.

"We have not made a decision. We are waiting for the prosecutor's attitude regarding today's decision," concluded Jeffry Simatupang, Ferry Irawan's attorney.
