TANGERANG - Ustaz Yahya Edward Hendrawan is willing to dress himself up as a liar to attract the attention of children at the Darussalam Orphanage, Pinang, Tangerang City. This is done so that orphanage children want to gain Islamic knowledge in an unusual way.
Ustaz Yahya has been carrying out his activities for 14 years. He teaches Islam to orphanage children by becomingipers.
Yahya said that he was inspired by his previous teacher to become a modern Abu Nawas. But somehow Ustaz Yahya chose to become a clown in 2010 to teach children Islam.
"My teacher has a mindset, wants me to be modern, cheerful and humorous Abu Nawas, so that children will be cheerfuler, more enthusiastic in studying to come to the taklim assembly," Yahya said, Thursday, March 14.
He also recounted that the first time he made a joke, he didn't get a good response from the children, because they were scared to see his face covered in proportional makeup.
At first, there were children who were afraid. But only 1-2 days they were already brave again. They were also very happy with my presence," he said.
Ustaz Yahya started the Koran lesson together with his students by praying for ta'awudz or asking for protection from Allah SWT from the temptation of the devil who is cursed.
