TANJUNGPINANG - Commission III of the Riau Islands DPRD (Kepri) asked the local government to repair a number of damaged roads in the Bintan Regency area to boost the regional economy.

Some of the roads in question include Jalan Simpang Sei Kecil to Sakera, Jalan Simpang Lagoi to Jalan Lintas Barat, Jalan Simpang Lobam to Teluk Sasah Port and Jalan asymptomatic Batam-Bintan bridge.

"The repair of damaged roads is very important, because roads are access for people who can grow the economy in the Riau Islands," said Chairman of Commission III of the Riau Islands DPRD, Widiastadi Nugroho while inspecting the provincial road in Bintan as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 14.

Widiastadi Nugroho also reminded the Riau Islands Provincial Government regarding the maintenance of provincial roads in the Bintan area.

According to him, the condition of provincial roads in Bintan is very important because it can open wider access for investment, job opportunities, and social services for the community.

"Moreover, Bintan is an international standard tourist area, so it is very necessary for the people's economy and accelerating the development of the tourism industry," he said.

Similarly, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Riau Islands DPRD, Nyanyang Haris Pratamura, said that repairing existing roads would provide driving comfort for road users who go back and forth from Tanjungpinang and Tanjung Uban.

In addition, repairing damaged roads will also accelerate the tourism aspect of the community and the environment.

"People in the Bintan area will certainly benefit from improving this road network," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Road and Bridge Development Section of the Riau Islands Provincial Public Works (PU) Office, Danil said that the repair of provincial roads in Sakera to the Small River received handling with a budget from the Bintan Area Entrepreneurship Agency (BP).

According to him, BP for the Bintan Region has budgeted IDR 22 billion for two packages of work to repair the Sakera Street to Sei Kecil which is divided into two parts with a road length of 16.5 kilometers.

"Immediately done this year, it is in the process of planning," he said.

However, unlike the Jalan Simpang Lagoi to Jalan Simpang Lintas Barat, according to Danil, the 8.8 kilometer long road has not been handled from the Riau Islands Provincial Budget.
