Kampung Melayu Beach Batam Hit By Black Waste, Fishermen Are Constrained By Fishing
Fishermen's activities at Kampung Melayu Beach, Batam City, Riau Islands Province (Kepri) are constrained by black waste. As a result, many of them cannot go to sea.
Chairman of the Kampung Melayu Community Empowerment Institute (LPM) Khairul Bahri said, in addition to the activities of constrained fishermen, Kampung Melayu Beach is also a tourist area that relies on nature as its main attraction.
"Here, tourist areas and fishermen's activities are currently influential, especially since this black oil is very difficult to disappear in the body, then marine biota is also affected," said Khairul in Batam, Wednesday, May 3, as quoted by Antara.
He admitted that he did not know for sure the origin or source of the black waste. Until now, his party continues to coordinate with related parties in order to accelerate the cleaning of Kampung Melayu Beach.
"At around 07.00 this morning when the community was active there was a black oil spill on the beach. We went down to the field, and it was true. We also contacted several related parties, and responded quickly so that at 09.00 the police, Bakamla and others had arrived. We hope that this will be followed up immediately because it is very detrimental," he said.
He conveyed that with this incident there would be compensation for the surrounding community, especially fishermen who were looking for fish in the surrounding waters.
"Obviously this must be cleaned immediately, and the responsibility. In addition, it can provide compensation to those affected. Please clean up our area so that our residents' economy can run again," said Khairul Bahri.
