The 'Life In A Bubble' Campaign On Car Free Day Jakarta Successfully Disposal Of Awareness Of The Right To Clean Air

JAKARTA - The collaboration between Air Talks and Pedestrian Coalition (KOPEKA) in collaboration with Clean Mobility Collective South East Asia (CMC SEA) and 350 Pilipinas, launched a public campaign Life in a Bubble at Car Free Day Jakarta (Jalan Sudirman Thamrin) on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

This campaign presents a striking visual installation in the form of a 'transparent bubble' occupied by actors, as a symbol of the difference in protection between a handful of people and the majority of people against air pollution.

The 'Life in a Bubble' is a campaign spearheaded by 350 Pilipinas in Manila, the Philippine capital, as an invitation to realize that clean air is a fundamental right that must be guaranteed, not only belonging to a handful of people. In addition, air pollution is not only emblazoned in scientific data or reports but in the reality faced by everyday society, especially the most vulnerable community.

Through organizing this campaign in Jakarta, collaborators encourage the public and government to take concrete action to reduce air pollution and protect public health.

Amalia S Bendeng from KOPEKA emphasized that there must be concrete actions to control chronic air pollution that occur in Jabodetabek and other big cities, for the sake of the existence of fresh air for all.

"The right to fresh air for all guaranteed by the 1945 Constitution Article 28 letter h as part of the right to obtain a good and healthy environment; it must be guaranteed existence," he said in a written statement, Monday, June 2.

This 'Life in a Bubble' campaign is expected to be able to move stakeholders, especially the government, supported by the participation of the community and the private sector in accordance with their respective competencies and capacities.

This activity, which took place from 06.30 to 09.30 WIB, was greeted enthusiastically by the public. Many visitors are actively involved in educational booths to understand the impact of air pollution and the importance of concrete steps from the government. This is the first step to urge the strengthening of science-based policies and transparency of data related to air quality.

In addition, this event was also enlivened by the appearance of Ho Katarsis, an artist who became the main actor in the film Street.

For the record, data from the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency Laboratory shows unhealthy air quality for the period 2011 - 2020 where the PM2.5 parameter, for example, shows an annual average of 46.1 mg / m3, while the average annual average of 2024 shows 43 mg / m3. The national quality standard for the annual average of PM2.5 is 15 rupiah / m3.

Duta Udara Bersih dari Bicara Udara atau Biru Voices Ambassadors 2024 yakni Aprila Majid dan Lisa Anggraeny, menyampaikan kekhawatirannya akan kolusi udara melalui acara ini.

"Through this campaign, as a mother, we have imagined that all this time we have tried to build a bubble-bubble to protect our children from air pollution, for example by limiting activities at home. We hope that one day children can breathe freely and freely without the 'bubble-bubble'," he explained.

It is hoped that this symbolic action can trigger a greater public push for the government to hear the voices of the public and adopt air quality standards that really protect public health, because clean air is the right for all people.
