JAKARTA The Russian court on Friday 27 December imposed a fine of 3 million rubles (approximately IDR 441 million) on the TikTok platform after being proven to have violated Russian legal restrictions regarding the distribution of certain information, according to a Moscow court press service.

However, the court did not specify the type of complaint or specific information on which TikTok violated.

The move adds to the long list of Russian actions against major tech companies. Previously, the Russian government had imposed fines on Google and YouTube on charges of failing to comply with local laws, including over the removal of content deemed illegal by Russian authorities. This strict oversight is part of Russia's efforts to control digital information circulating in the country.

TikTok, which is owned by ByteDance, is also not only facing pressure in Russia. The platform has received fines in various countries for violations of privacy, content moderation, and dissemination of information that is not in accordance with local regulations. A number of countries, such as the United States, the European Union, and India, have also tightened supervision of the application from China.
