Android Will Present Passkeys Support For Third Party Apps

Android will soon provide bypasskeys support for third-party applications. This support can be used for several applications such as Uber and WhatsApp.

Through the new Android Developers website, the new Android-only Application Programming Interface (API), namely the Creditial Manager, will soon be published on November 1.

The Credential Manager will assist users in accommodating biometricpasskeys authentication, such as identification biometrics, traditional passwords, and combined loginity.

With thepasskeys, users can enter the application more easily. Users can also avoid barriers to entering the application due to forgetting passwords.

If usingpasskeys, users only need to activate the face sensor and fingerprint sensor on the phone. Users no longer need to enter with two-way authentication, namely verification with the answer message service (SMS).

In terms of security itself, biometric authentication is safer than two-way authentication, sopasskeys is a good change step from the Android system.

Meanwhile, Android uses 1Password as a third-party password manager. 1Password can integrate API to make it easier for users to tap thepasskeys.

Google has turned off several authentic APIs so that the Credential Manager can be used more to authenticate. The hope is that Android can provide simpler passkeys access and can be used for all applications.
