EU Susun Strategis Agar Big Tech Fukung Pembangunan 5G Dan Broadband

JAKARTA - EU (EU) industry chief Thierry Breton is likely to set a strategy next year requiring Big Tech to help fund the development of 5G and broadband networks across Europe.

This will be the European Commission's next decision to decide whether to adopt regulations. This report comes from several sources familiar with the matter on Tuesday, October 10.

European telecommunications operators say Google's parent Alphabet, Facebook's parent Meta, Netflix, Microsoft, and Amazon should help finance part of the costs as they use most of internet traffic.

Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefonica, and Telecom Italy called it fair division financing, while Big Tech said it was equivalent to internet taxes.

The dispute between Big Tech and European telecommunications companies is still in the process of being discussed and the final decision will depend on the steps taken by the authorities in the European Union.
