OpenAI Accused Of Violating EU Privacy Law, Under Investigation In Poland

JAKARTA - A supervisory agency in Poland is investigating OpenAI, over complaints that its chatbot, ChatGPT, violated the EU data protection law known as the GDPR.

So far OpenAI has faced at least two high-end lawsuits in San Francisco federal court over alleged violations of privacy laws. They gave no response when the lawsuit was reported earlier this month.

"This case relates to violations of many provisions regarding personal data protection, so we will ask OpenAI to answer a number of questions," said Jan Nowak, President of the Polish Personal Data Protection Office (UODO).

According to UODO, the unnamed whistleblower said that OpenAI did not correct false information about those who had been produced by ChatGPT.

The whistleblower said they could not find out their personal data processed by the company and received answers that evaded and misleading their questions. OPENAI has not yet responded to requests for comment via email.

In addition to privacy cases, technology companies including Microsoft, OpenAI, Google, and AI stabilities are also facing recent lawsuits related to copyrighted material "scribing" and personal data from all over the internet to train their generative AI systems.

OpenAI's chatGPT has become the fastest growing consumer app in history earlier this year, reaching 100 million active users in January just two months after its launch. Microsoft has invested billions of dollars in the company.
