JAKARTA - Platform X, formerly known as Twitter, plans to launch video and audio calls when its owner, Elon Musk, is trying to build an "artificial application" to stay ahead in competition with Threads owned by Meta Platforms Inc.

"Users will not need phone numbers for these features that will be available on Google's Apple iOS, Android devices, and personal computers," Musk said in a post on X on Thursday, August 31.

Unfortunately he did not give a time schedule for the launch of this feature. Even though this feature is certainly eagerly awaited by the users.

After changing Twitter's name to X, Musk signaled that he would turn the platform into a super app that offers various services ranging from messages and social networks to payments between individuals.

This vision reminds Tencent's WeChat app, a very common part of everyday life in China.

Musk, who is still leading product development on X after appointing Linda Yacarino, as the new CEO in May, and is also pushing for changes to the news link's display on the platform in a move that could hurt the reach of news publishers.
