JAKARTA - Google announced new steps it takes to comply with EU's online content rules known as the Digital Services Act (DSA). These measures include providing more information about target-based advertising and providing more access to researchers regarding data on how its products function.

DSA rules will take effect on Friday 24 August and require technology companies to take further action in dealing with child sexual harassment and disinformation material, becoming more transparent about target-based algorithms, bots and ads processes, as well as removing illegal, unsafe, or fake products sold on their platforms.

Google will expand its Advertising Transparency Center, a global search repository on advertisers across its platform, to comply with specific DSA provisions and provide additional information on targeted advertising for ads presented in the European Union.

Laurie Richardson, Google's Vice President of Trust and Security, stated in a post on the blog that Google will also increase data access for researchers who want to understand more about how Google Search, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Play, and Shopping works in practice as well as conduct research on the risks of systemic content in the EU.

The giant technology company from the United States will also provide more visibility of its content moderation decisions, provide users with various ways to contact the company, and update its reporting and appeal process to provide a type of information and context specified about its decision.

Google will also launch a new Center for Transparency that will allow people to access information about corporate policies by product. These measures demonstrate Google's efforts to comply with DSA rules and ensure further transparency and security in its operations in the European Union.
