FC Barcelona Creates NFT, Collaborates With World Of Women To Strengthen Fan Relations With Favorite Clubs And Players

JAKARTA - The famous football club, FC Barcelona, has collaborated with the NFT project, World of Women (WoW), to create a unique football NFT. This NFT, entitled Empowerment, features an animated portrait of Alexia Putellas, the captain of the women's team FC Barcelona and the 2022 UEFA Women's Best Player of the Year.

This artwork was created by the lead artist at WW, Yasmin De Cristofaro, using Putellas' image as a reference and adding elements of the artist's style and vision.

Fans can bid for this football NFT on OpenSea from 26 to 28 June 2023. Initial bids start from 0.1 ETH or about 350 US dollars (IDR 5.2 million) and the final bid will be set by market demand. Proceeds from NFT sales will be donated to the Bar haca Foundation, which supports social projects for children and adolescents around the world.

The collaboration between FC Barcelona and WW is part of the club's NFT Masterpiece Collection, which aims to showcase the club's values and history through digital art. The first NFT in this collection is a work depicting Johan Cruyff, the legendary FC Barcelona player and coach. The second NFT features Alexia Putellas and the World of Women. The collection will also include iconic moments and other Barcelona FC characters.

Football NFT provides a new experience for fans to connect with their favorite clubs and players. In addition, NFT also provides new revenue streams and engagement opportunities for clubs and leagues.

Experts, such as the head of technology research at Deloitte Global, Paul Lee, acknowledged this potential. However, NFT football has also received criticism from several parties who consider it exaggerated, unsustainable, and has a negative impact on the environment.

They highlight that most football NFTs do not provide exclusive ownership or use rights, and there is a risk of theft or duplication. To attract a wider audience, football's NFT needs to prove long-term survival and address concerns regarding the environmental impact and authenticity of digital artwork on offer.
