JAKARTA - Luxury car producer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced on Tuesday, February 21 that it will open three new technology centers in Europe to develop autonomous vehicle technology as part of its partnership with Silicon Valley artificial intelligence company, Nvidia.

Technology centers in Munich, Bologna, and Madrid will develop autonomous vehicle systems for the next generation of JLR luxury vehicles. JLR itself already has six global technology centers in the United States, China, and Europe.

JLR, a unit of Tata Motors India, said the site was chosen due to the availability of local digital engineering specialists and will create nearly 100 engineering jobs focused "on developing driver assistance systems and artificial intelligence for autonomous cars in the future."

Quoted from Reuters, JLR and Nvidia announced a multi-year agreement last year in which they will jointly develop the brains and nervous systems of computers for Jaguar and Land Rover to be launched in 2025 and beyond.

The partnership with Nvidia provides JLR with a well-funded ally as they try to catch Tesla Inc and other luxury car rivals in the digital technology race.
