JAKARTA – TikTok is again appealing to content creators to stay loyal to the platform, by working on a new feature dubbed the paywall. This feature can be used by content creators to set prices for each of their exclusive content.

It was first reported by The Information, fans of the creator's content themselves must pay 1 US dollar (IDR 15 thousand) or other fees set by the creator to watch their videos.

With this feature, content creators can create exclusive content and fans will pay to watch it. While it's unclear how the system will work, the feature will help content creators directly benefit from their exclusive content.

In fact, this strategy has been tried by other social media such as Instagram beforehand in an effort to persuade content creators to keep using their platform.

On Meta's social media, creators can share subscriber-only posts, Reels, Stories and other content not available to other followers.

Furthermore, TikTok is also considering changing its Creator Fund amidst complaints about low payouts. The idea is to pay creators more for the content than for the original.

TikTok has considered raising the requirements under which creators with 100.000 followers can participate. The fund may also reward users who produce longer videos of up to 10 minutes.

"We are committed to exploring new ways to create valuable and useful experiences for the TikTok creator community," said TikTok spokesman Zachary Kizer, quoted from The Verge, Tuesday, February 14.

“On TikTok, anyone can be a creator and everyone can enjoy the entertainment of our inspiring creators, and we aim to continually innovate this experience so that people can express themselves, find their community, and be rewarded for their creativity.”

The features reported to be in development are meant to incentivize and add content creators to the platform.

However, TikTok is currently facing various access bans on US and state government devices over fears that the Chinese government could use the app for spying and propaganda. But the company has long denied the allegations.
